When to call us out

## Faults we're called out tomost often in Manchester homes

### Fuse board tripping or won't reset
An RCD that keeps dropping usually means a faulty circuit, appliance or damaged cable. We split the installation down circuit by circuit to find the cause instead of resetting and hoping.

### Burning smell or scorched sockets
Heat marks around a socket, switch or consumer unit mean a loose or overloaded connection. Isolate it, then call us so the damaged accessory and circuit can be made safe and replaced.

### Total loss of power in the property
We check the incoming supply, main switch and protective devices, confirm whether the fault sits inside your installation, and put temporary power back on where it is safe to do so.

### Water leak reaching lights or sockets
Leaks into ceiling roses, downlights or sockets are made safe, dried and tested before anything is re-energised, then certified so you know the circuit is sound.

### Damaged or exposed wiring
Cables caught by a drill, a nail or rodents are cut back, repaired or rerouted in the correct cable, then tested rather than taped up.

### Failed alarms or emergency lighting
Sounding fire panels, faulty detectors and emergency lighting that fails its test are attended, repaired and logged so your premises stay compliant.

How a call out works

## Safe first, diagnosed properly, then priced before we start
1

### Phone us and describe the fault
Ring 07469 921171. We ask what happened, what you can smell or see, and which circuits are affected, then tell you what to isolate while you wait.

2

### Make it safe first
On arrival the priority is removing the danger: isolating the faulty circuit, disconnecting damaged accessories and confirming the rest of the installation is safe to use.

3

### Find the real cause
Insulation resistance, continuity and loop testing narrow the fault to a circuit, joint or appliance, so the repair fixes the cause rather than the symptom.

4

### Repair, test and certify
You get the price before we proceed, the repair is tested on completion, and notifiable domestic work is certified and registered through NICEIC.

While you wait

## What to do beforean electrician arrives

- Switch off the affected circuit at the consumer unit, and the main switch if you are unsure which circuit it is.
- Unplug anything that was in use when the fault happened, and leave it unplugged.
- Do not touch scorched or wet accessories, and keep water away from sockets and light fittings.
- Do not keep resetting a device that trips straight back off; it is protecting you from a real fault.
- If you smell gas as well as burning, leave the property and call the national gas emergency line on 0800 111 999.Not urgent? Book a planned visit through our Manchester electrician contact page or read about electrical safety testing and EICRs.

Emergency call out FAQs

## Questions we're askedon urgent call outs

### What counts as an electrical emergency?
Burning smells, scorched sockets or switches, sparking, exposed live wiring, water reaching electrics, a consumer unit that will not stay on, or a complete loss of power. If anything smells hot or looks scorched, switch it off at the consumer unit and phone us on 07469 921171.

### When can you attend an emergency call out?
We work Monday to Friday 7:30 – 19:30 and Saturday 8:00 – 17:00, and we keep time aside for urgent work during those hours. Sundays are call-outs only, subject to availability.

### How quickly will you get back to me?
Enquiries are typically answered within 1–2 hours during working hours. For anything urgent, phone rather than fill in the form so we can talk the situation through straight away.

### Which areas do you cover for emergency call outs?
Manchester, Salford, Trafford, Stockport, Tameside, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury and Bolton, plus the surrounding areas of Greater Manchester.

### Will the fault be certified once it is repaired?
Yes. Where the repair is notifiable domestic work it is tested and certified, and registered through NICEIC, so you are left with the correct paperwork.

### What does an emergency call out cost?
You are told the price before any work starts. Where a fault needs further investigation or parts, we explain the options and price them in writing rather than running up an open-ended bill.
