The service

## Lighting priced on runningcost, not just fittings
An LED upgrade replaces halogen, fluorescent and early low-quality LED fittings with modern, correctly specified luminaires. Done properly it cuts lighting energy consumption substantially, removes the constant lamp replacement that comes with halogen and fluorescent tubes, and improves the actual quality of light: colour temperature, colour rendering, beam angle and glare control.

Done badly it is a false economy: cheap downlights that fail within two years, colour temperatures that make a living room feel like a car park, drivers that buzz on dimmers, and fittings buried in loft insulation with no fire rating. Specification is where the value sits, and that is the part we take seriously.

We upgrade lighting in homes, offices, retail units, salons, gyms, workshops and warehouses across Bury, Manchester, Salford and the surrounding boroughs, from replacing a set of failing downlights to a full commercial scheme with presence detection, all tested and certified on completion.

### Why professional work matters here
Lighting is a design job before it is an installation job. Fitting count, spacing, beam angle, colour temperature, dimming compatibility and control strategy decide whether the result is comfortable and efficient or bright, uneven and irritating. Fire rating and insulation clearances decide whether it is safe.

### Who it's for

- Homeowners with failing halogen downlights or dim, uneven lighting
- Landlords reducing maintenance visits and tenant complaints
- Businesses paying for long lighting hours in units and warehouses
- Retail, salon and hospitality operators who need light to sell

### When it's needed

- Lamps are failing regularly or fittings are discolouring with heat
- Fluorescent tubes flicker, hum or take time to reach full output
- Rooms are dim, patchy or unpleasant to work in
- Energy costs are high in a unit that runs long hours
- A refurbishment or fit-out is already opening up the ceiling

What happens if it's left

## What poor lightingcosts every month
Halogen downlights and fluorescent battens consume several times the power of an equivalent LED for the same light output, and in a unit lit twelve hours a day that difference lands on every bill for as long as the fittings stay in place. The saving is not dramatic per fitting; it is dramatic per hundred fittings across a year.

Then there is maintenance. Failing lamps and tubes mean access equipment, labour and disruption, repeatedly. In tenanted and commercial property that is a call-out each time, and in high-bay or high-ceiling spaces the access cost exceeds the fitting cost.

The hidden costs are worse. Halogen fittings run hot enough to discolour ceilings and degrade nearby cable insulation, and downlights installed without fire hoods or insulation clearance compromise fire separation between floors and create genuine overheating risk. Poor lighting also affects the business itself: retail displays that look flat, workshops where detail is hard to see, offices where staff complain of glare and headaches.

### Common mistakes we're called to fix

- Buying fittings on price and replacing them within two years
- Mixing colour temperatures so rooms look inconsistent
- Using non-dimmable drivers on existing dimmer switches
- Covering downlights with loft insulation and no fire hood
- Replacing fitting for fitting instead of designing the layout

Our process

## Five stages, every job, from enquiry to certificate

- Step 1

### Assessment
We look at the space, how it is used and how long lighting runs, and note ceiling construction, existing circuits and control arrangements.

- Step 2

### Specification and quotation
Fitting type, output, colour temperature, beam angle, dimming and control strategy specified, with the price fixed in writing before work starts.

- Step 3

### Installation
Old fittings removed, apertures made good where needed, new luminaires installed with correct fire rating, insulation clearance and terminations.

- Step 4

### Testing and commissioning
Circuits tested, dimming and switching set up, presence and daylight controls commissioned, and light levels checked in use.

- Step 5

### Handover and guarantee
Certification issued for the electrical work and the installation covered by our guarantee. 12-month workmanship guarantee when materials are supplied by us and no other contractor has worked on the installation beforehand.

What you get out of it

## The difference between doneand done properly

### Lower energy consumption
LED replaces halogen and fluorescent load directly, and the saving repeats every hour the lights are on, significant in long-hours premises.

### Far fewer maintenance visits
Quality LED luminaires run for tens of thousands of hours, which removes the recurring cost of lamps, tubes and access equipment.

### Light that suits the space
Colour temperature, output and beam angle chosen per room or zone, so lighting is even and comfortable rather than bright and patchy.

### Lower fire and heat risk
Correct fire-rated fittings, insulation clearance and terminations replace hot halogen units sitting against ceiling voids.

### Control that pays for itself
Presence detection and daylight dimming in corridors, stores and warehousing stop you paying to light empty space.

### Certified electrical work
Circuits are tested and documented, so an upgrade does not leave undocumented alterations in the installation.

In detail

## Specifying LEDproperly
The numbers that matter are lumens, not watts. Output is specified per space against the task: general living areas, kitchens and bathrooms with task lighting where it is needed, offices around desk levels, retail with accent lighting on displays, warehousing and workshops with uniform coverage across racking or benches. Colour temperature is chosen deliberately, warmer tones around 2700K to 3000K in domestic and hospitality settings, neutral 4000K in offices, workshops and clinical spaces, and kept consistent so the space does not read as mismatched. Colour rendering matters where colour accuracy does: retail, salons, food and finishing work.

Hardware and installation detail decide service life. Fire-rated downlights are used where the ceiling forms fire separation, with insulation clearance or approved hoods so fittings are not smothered in loft insulation. IP-rated fittings go in bathrooms by zone and in kitchens, wash-down areas and external positions. Drivers are matched to the control method, trailing-edge dimming for domestic dimmer circuits, DALI or 1-10V for commercial dimming, because most 'flickering LED' complaints are a driver and dimmer mismatch rather than a faulty fitting. Heat-resistant flex, correct terminal blocks and adequate ventilation above the fitting complete the job.

Commercial schemes add controls. Linear and high-bay LED replaces fluorescent battens and discharge fittings in warehousing and workshops; recessed panels and suspended linear fittings suit offices; track and spotlights suit retail. Presence detection in corridors, WCs and stores, daylight-linked dimming near glazing, and zoned switching cut consumption further, and emergency versions of the same luminaires can be integrated so escape lighting is part of the scheme rather than an afterthought.

### Variations of this service
Downlight replacementHalogen and failed LED downlights replaced with fire-rated, correctly rated fittings, apertures made good and dimming set up properly.

Fluorescent to LED conversionBattens, panels and high-bay fittings replaced in offices, workshops and warehousing, with control added where hours are long.

Kitchen and task lightingUnder-cabinet, plinth and task lighting installed with sensible switching and consistent colour temperature.

Retail and hospitality schemesTrack, accent and feature lighting specified for display quality and colour rendering rather than raw output.

Controls and sensorsPresence detection, daylight dimming and zoned switching installed and commissioned to cut consumption in long-hours premises.

### In homes
Domestic work focuses on comfort and consistency: warm colour temperature, even spacing, reliable dimming and fire-rated fittings where ceilings require them.

### In commercial premises
Commercial work focuses on light level, uniformity and running cost, with controls, out-of-hours installation and documented certification for the compliance file.

Questions we're asked

## LED Lighting Upgradesquestions, answered
Anything not covered here, phone 07469 921171 and you'll get a straight answer rather than a callback promise.

How much does an LED lighting upgrade cost?Cost depends on fitting count, specification, access and controls, so a figure is Not Provided here. Tell us the space and number of fittings and you will get a written fixed price.

How much will I save on energy?Savings depend on what is being replaced and how many hours the lighting runs. LED draws a fraction of the power of halogen and fluorescent for equivalent output, so long-hours commercial premises see the largest reduction. We will not quote a percentage we cannot substantiate for your specific fittings.

How long do LED fittings last?Quality luminaires are typically rated for tens of thousands of hours, which in most premises means years of service rather than the routine lamp replacement halogen and fluorescent need.

Why do my LED lights flicker on a dimmer?Usually the driver and dimmer are incompatible, or the dimmer's minimum load is not met. It is fixed by specifying dimmable drivers and a compatible trailing-edge dimmer, not by living with it.

Can you replace downlights without damaging the ceiling? In most cases yes, where the new fitting suits the existing aperture. Where sizes differ we make good the aperture as part of the work and confirm that in the quotation.

Do downlights need fire-rated fittings?Where the ceiling forms part of the fire separation between floors, yes, and insulation must be kept clear or an approved hood used. This is a standard part of how we install them.

Can you install lighting in a business without closing?Yes. Commercial installations are programmed around trading hours, including evenings and weekends where required.

Is the installation guaranteed?12-month workmanship guarantee when materials are supplied by us and no other contractor has worked on the installation beforehand.

Do you supply the fittings? We can specify and supply, or install fittings you have chosen. Note that our workmanship guarantee applies where materials are supplied by us.
